Terms of Service
Last updated 8 September 2026
Who the three parties are
You, the client. You book an appointment through a stylist’s own booking page and pay a deposit.
Your stylist. An independent, self-employed professional. She sets her own prices, her own hours, her own travel fees and her own cancellation window, and she does the work in your home. She is not employed by GLOSS, and GLOSS does not direct, supervise or guarantee her work.
GLOSS. The platform. It hosts her booking page, shows her real availability, works out the travel fee, takes the deposit, holds the record of the appointment and tells both of you what is happening. It is not a party to the service itself.
This matters most when something goes wrong with an appointment. A dispute about the work is between you and your stylist. GLOSS can tell you what was booked, what was charged and when — and will — but it cannot redo a set of nails.
Booking and payment
What you are charged, and when
The price of an appointment is the services you choose plus a travel fee.
- The travel fee is set by your stylist: a number of miles she travels free, a rate per mile beyond that, a cap, and a distance she will not go past. It is worked out from the driving distance to the address you give, and you see the arithmetic before you pay anything.
- The deposit is 25% of the services plus 100% of the travel fee, and it is charged when you book. Travel is fully prepaid because the drive is her cost whether or not the appointment happens.
- The balance is the rest, and you pay it to your stylist directly at the appointment. GLOSS never charges it, never handles it and takes no share of it.
- GLOSS takes 10% of the appointment total, once, out of the deposit. Your stylist receives the rest of the deposit.
Every one of those figures is fixed at the moment you book and written onto your appointment. If your stylist changes her prices or her travel rates afterwards, your appointment does not move.
How the payment is handled
Card details are entered into our payment processor’s own form and never reach GLOSS. We hold a reference to the payment, not a card number.
Holding a time
Choosing a time reserves it for ten minutes while you pay. If the deposit is not paid in that window the time is released and nothing is charged.
Cancellation and refunds
Your stylist sets a free-cancellation window — how many hours before the appointment you can still cancel and get the deposit back. The default is 24 hours. Whatever it is, the exact cut-off time is shown to you before you pay and on your appointment afterwards, as a real date and time rather than a rule to work out.
- You cancel before the cut-off: the whole deposit is refunded to the card you paid with. Refunds usually appear within a few days.
- You cancel after the cut-off: the deposit is not refunded. It is your stylist’s — she set the time aside and turned other work away.
- Your stylist cancels: the whole deposit is refunded in full, whatever the window says and however close to the appointment it is.
- You are not there: if your stylist records the appointment as missed, the deposit stays with her, because the drive still happened.
The balance is never charged by GLOSS in any of these cases, because GLOSS never charges the balance at all.
Your address
Your street address is not shown to your stylist when you book. She sees your town and the driving distance — enough to know the trip is worth taking — and nothing more precise.
The full address, including any access notes or gate code you give, appears to her from 24 hours before the appointment until 24 hours after it ends, and only once your deposit has cleared. Before and after that window it is not on her screen and not in her email.
The first time your address is handed to a stylist is recorded permanently, so that if you ever ask who has it and since when, there is an answer. See our Privacy and data retention page.
Reviews
You can review an appointment your stylist has marked as completed, and only that — there is no way to review an appointment that did not happen. Your review shows publicly on her booking page with your first name and the month, never your full name and never the date. You can edit it for seven days.
For stylists
- You are self-employed. You set your prices, hours, travel rules and cancellation window, and you are responsible for holding whatever licence your state requires for the work you do.
- You are responsible for your own taxes. GLOSS passes your share of each deposit to your payout account through our payment processor; the balance you collect in person is yours and does not pass through GLOSS at all.
- Your payout account is yours. Deleting your GLOSS account does not close it, because it may hold money and records that have nothing to do with us.
- Client addresses shown to you are for that appointment. They are not yours to keep, to copy or to use for anything else.
Acceptable use
- Do not book appointments you do not intend to keep.
- Do not upload photographs you do not have the right to publish, or that show someone who has not agreed to appear.
- Do not use GLOSS to harass anyone, or to collect anyone’s personal information.
- Accounts that do any of these can be closed.
Cookies
GLOSS sets only the cookies it cannot work without: one that keeps you signed in, and ones our payment processor sets to complete a payment and to detect fraud. There is no advertising, no analytics that follow you between sites, and nothing that builds a profile of you — which is why there is no consent banner to click through. Signing out clears the session.
What we do not promise
GLOSS is provided as it is. We do not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted, or that a stylist will be available, or that any particular appointment will go ahead. What we do commit to is that the money is handled as described above, and that the record of what was booked and charged is accurate and kept.
Changes
If these terms change in substance, the date at the top of this page changes with them. Appointments already booked keep the terms, prices and cancellation window that applied when they were booked.
